WHERE IS THE EVENT GOING TO TAKE PLACE?


To celebrate the migration of the grey whale and the Festival of Whales 50th Anniversary, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for whale lovers from all over to participate! This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Festival of Whales Splash Dash is taking place virtually. Whether you decide to participate in the Dana Point Harbor, on the waters of the Pacific Ocean, on a trail, in your neighborhood, on a treadmill or even on the couch, the fun and excitement of the Festival will be where ever you are!

IF I DON'T LIVE IN DANA POINT, CAN I STILL REGISTER?


Of course - runners from all over the globe are WHALEcome! The silver lining of the race being virtual this year is that there is no limit to where you can participate from – near, far, where ever you are!




HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?


$25 All participants will receive a Medal and commemorative Festival of Whales 50th Anniversary T-Shirt. Participants will also be emailed their Virtual Goody Bag which includes special offers and giveaways at local participating businesses and restaurants.




CAN I CANCEL MY REGISTRATION AND GET A REFUND?


No. Unfortunately, there are no refunds for the 2021 Dana Point Festival of Whales Splash Dash. However, you may allow a family member or friend to participate in your place.

Timing & Photos

HOW DO I SUBMIT MY RACE TIME?


Time your race and share your results with other participants using the Active Experience App. Remember, this is just for fun!




WILL THERE BE RACE PHOTOS?


This virtual race is one that we perform while apart, but it can bring us together. We would all love to see where you ran, and those smiling finisher photos! Post your photos on social media and tag us! Use the hashtag #FOWSplashDash on Instagram and Facebook, and please tag us – we are @RunDanaPoint on Instagram and Facebook. You can also email us your photos!! Email run@danapointchamber.com – we can’t wait to see them!





Packet Pick-up

HOW DO I GET MY RACE PACKET (SHIRT & MEDAL)?


There are two ways to ensure that you receive your race day packet:

Ship It: We are happy to mail you your race day packet!
To ensure that you receive it by Festival of Whales weekend (March 6 & 7), you must be registered by March 1, 2021.

When registering, please check the box that indicates you’d like your items shipped to you. There is an additional charge.
Packet Pick-up: Live locally and prefer to save the shipping costs?
Join us in the Dana Point Harbor on Friday, March 5 from 12 – 6pm for a drive-thru packet pick-up. Have your registration confirmation email handy as well as your ID.




CAN I PICK-UP MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS' MEDAL AND T-SHIRT FOR THEM?


Yes. When registering, check the box that reads Family & Friends Packet Pick-up. You may create a team for all the participants you need to pickup for. If you’ve already registered, you can edit your registration here.




WHAT COVID-19 MODIFICATIONS WILL BE IN PLACE AT THE PACKET PICK-UP?


For the safety of all participants, volunteers and staff, we ask that you please wear a face covering and physically distance yourself from others when possible. All staff and volunteers will be wearing face coverings.




WHAT DO I NEED TO PICK-UP MY ITEMS AT THE ON-SITE PACKET PICK-UP?


All we'll need is a look at your ID and ideally a copy of your registration confirmation (via your smart phone or a print-out). Make sure to create a group packet pick-up if you're planning on picking up items for other people!

CAN MY BUSINESS PLACE AN OFFER IN THE VIRUAL EVENT BAG?


Yes, please!
In lieu of a traditional goody bag, we offer our participants a Virtual Goody Bag! Not only is a virtual goody bag more environmentally friendly for our marine mammal friends, but it offers a longer opportunity to advertise to our participants (60+ days)! The Virtual Goody Bag is sent to all participants of the Dana Point FOW Splash Dash, as well as our volunteers. If would like information on placing an ad in the runner’s virtual goody bag, please contact us.




WHY IS THERE NO OFFICIAL START/FINISH LINE?


Per Governor Gavin Newsom’s orders, large events and gatherings are not currently permitted to happen. Trust us, we would love to spend the day on the water, feeling the cool ocean breeze while seeing all of your smiling faces, but it's not a safe possibility just yet.
Should you choose to still run your route in the Harbor, please run on sidewalks where possible, and face oncoming traffic on road shoulders where sidewalks are not available so that you can see what is coming toward you at any given time. Consider wearing no headphones, or above-ear headphones that are not noise-canceling, so that you may hear what is going on around you.
